All parents must provide the required forms and supporting documentation and email them to registrar@whistlerminorhockey.com. Applications for registration, including all items listed below, must be completed and submitted as a package to the Registrar. The approval process must go through multiple amateur hockey governing bodies, including IIHF and your home club, as well as all bodies of Canadian Amateur Hockey which govern Whistler Minor Hockey Association.

All levels of approval must be received, and an approval letter must be issued by BC Hockey before an international student player can roster with WMHA. Players who have not received final approval are not permitted on the ice.

Under the U18 program, international students will be permitted to play at the "C" level (competitive recreation) only. Players wishing to play at the "A" (representative) level are not eligible under this transfer program.

Applicants should begin the application process at the same time they confirm their upcoming enrollment in a local school, and not later than May 1st to be qualified for the season startup in September.

*Application does not guarantee acceptance in the event that a team is already filled with returning players, and there is not another team appropriate to the player's age and skill level.

Please contact the WMHA Registrar to initiate the registration process. WMHA fees must be paid at time of initial registration.

Player Transfer Information

Permanent Transfer

This applies when a player is moving with their parents.
  1. Player/family applies to the new association first. Proof of residency will be required, such as:
    1. parent ID
    2. utility bill
    3. lease or purchase agreement
    4. school registration
    5. driver’s licence update
  2. The new association indicates its willingness to accept the player.
  3. The transfer/player movement request (Form 133) is sent by the new association registrar to the home association registrar for release/signature at: registrar@whistlerminorhockey.com
  4. The new association starts the transfer process in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR).
  5. After approval from the governing branch, the player becomes eligible and may roster with the new association.

Temporary Transfer

This applies to a one-season transfer in cases when a player wants to play at a level or for a team not available through the home association. The player is not permanently changing associations and automatically returns to the home association at the end of the season.

  1. Player/family applies to the new association first.

In BC Hockey, it is technically possible for a home association to issue a release or sign a player movement form before another association has fully accepted the player; however, this is not recommended. If a player is fully released before being accepted elsewhere, they may lose guaranteed placement rights with the home association. If there is no receiving association, the player may need to request reinstatement and/or complete another movement process, since all players must have a home association.

Tryout Information

For players who want to attend tryouts with a team or association that is outside their home association or zone, they will need Form 143. The player/family applies to the receiving association.

  1. Complete Form 143 and have it signed by the home association registrar at: registrar@whistlerminorhockey.com.
This form allows the player to remain attached to the home association while temporarily attending tryouts elsewhere.
  2. If selected, the player will need to complete the steps for a temporary transfer.
